Hi All,

At last I have some definite information about IRoQ 2010.

The Rally will be held over the weekend of Friday 30th, Saturday 31st July and Sunday 1st August 2010. It will all be conducted
in the area of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, and predominately in the Imbil Forestry Area.

Current planning is to utilise a total of 6 forestry stages, with some being run in both directions and some being linked to form
the longer stages. There will be 2 x 35 Km stages and 2 x 27 Km stages included in the rally.

The Rally will include cars competing in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), Australian Rally Championship (ARC), Queensland
Rally Championship (QRC), All Comers and ARC Classics. Approval has been gained to allow 2 New Zealand Log Booked Rally Cars to compete
in this years event.

The stages include a Super Special Stage with possibly 3 cars on the stage at a time, to be conducted in the Industrial Estate behind
Corbold Park, Caloundra; and the regular stages in the Imbil area, which include Million LA, Woodbird, Derrier, Kandanga Long, Breakneck
and a new stage – Gibber. There are some changes to most of the stages from last year, but these mainly concern the competitors.

Maximum competitive distance will be a maximum of 280 Km. There will be a remote service area set up in Kenilworth for tyre changing and
refuelling after the tarmac surfaces used in the SSS at Caloundra. The Spectator Park will be utilised in the Cutters Camp area with planned
entertainment for spectators during breaks in the Rally schedule. These will include rally car demonstrations and motorkana type activities.

The Rally Administrative Headquarters will again be at SurfAir, with the Competitive Headquarters again at Imbil. It is envisaged that the
WICEN commitment will be the same as in previous years. Planning is currently underway to have all the equipment used during the rally to be
checked and serviced, so if you may be able to assist in any working bees, (most likely after the end of March), please let me know, so I
can include you on the mailing list for these activities. There will also be assistance needed to get equipment set up in the Imbil area
from early in the week before the rally. If you may be able to assist in this area, let me know.

Included is the usual form for personal details to allow for insurance coverage, availability planning, site allocations, equipment
availability, shirt size if we are able to source any freebies, and anything else that may crop up.

The field on the form relating to camping at the Borumba Deer Park is to enable me to put in a bulk booking for an area in Sherwood Forest.
If you have any preferences for a particular location or Control Team you would like to be located with, or if you have any suggestions to
make improvements over last years event, please send these to me as well. I do not promise to be able to satisfy all, but I will try.

If you are aware of anyone who may like to participate and get out in the dust and dirt of the forest, then wash it all down over a sip of
your favourite tipple during the evening gossip sessions, put them in touch and I’ll ensure they have somewhere to go and enjoy the weekend.

Currently, I am attending planning meetings at the BSCC clubrooms at the end of each month, and as I get any major updates, I am planning on
putting out an update. If you would like any particular information in the meantime, contact me and I’ll see if I can assist.

Regards,

Gary

CAR RALLY 2003 REPORT

Brisbane Area WICEN Group CAR RALLY REPORT  2003

Last weekend the Caloundra's Falken Rally Queensland organised by the Brisbane Sporting Car Club took place.

The Brisbane Area WICEN Group Inc. with assistance of Amateur Operators from as far North as Rockhampton and as far South as Melbourne, manned the start and stop points and transmitted the start times and scored times using packet, to rally headquarters at Caloundra.

In addition an Amateur Radio Operator was positioned at all of the Safety On Stage points situated every 5kms along the track.

Portable voice repeaters were set up on Mt Borumba and Mt Kandanga, while packet was relayed from the field to Mt Kandanga, digipeated to Maleny then on to Rally base at Caloundra.

This year saw a major upgrade of the group's equipment with the voice repeaters being linked together by UHF, so that most of the operators were able to sign on to Mt Kandanga when they left home for the exercise.

Also the scoring software had to be rewritten to allow for scoring to 1/10 of a second.

Special thanks must go to Nev VK4TX who took 3 weeks annual leave just to prepare for the event.  Thanks must also go to the Sunshine Coast Radio Club who organised the scoring of the "Hella Hill Climb" and to the Queensland Digital Group for their assistance with organising the equipment upgrade.  Also to Brian VK4XS who had to revise his software.

VK4TX says in the lead up to the official presentations at the ARC dinner the Clerk of the Course acknowledged each of the major sponsors by name and made a general thanks to the other sponsors.  Then he made the following statement (words to this effect): "I acknowledge the assistance provided by many people and by the WICEN group who have the best meals on Mt Kandanga.  WICEN are amateur radio Operators who provided us with the scores and safety communications during the event. Without them we would not be able to have this event."

Again, Neville says congratulations on your professional service provided to the ARC. "All I can do is to congratulate each of you on a job well done".
