Amateur Eye

Magazine of the South East Queensland Amateur Television group

Editorial

This is first club mag since the passing of Noel VK4KP.
Noel had done a great job as the Amateur Eye editor for a great many years.
The consensus at the April 2010 general meeting is that a printed magazine can not be justified
with the present low financial membership of eleven.

Although the SEQATV has a core of keen members, the club now needs to rebuild the membership
to have a good financial base and maintain its assets.

The club has been in discussion with the Brisbane Digital Television Group and the Queensland
Digital Group with the aim of working together to improve the present ATV repeaters located
at Ocean View. With the expected loss of lower part of 70CM by April 2011 or earlier, one
higher power digital output repeater would be the logical way to go.

Review

kaiser baas TVStick dual

DVB-T dual tuner USB TV tuner using one antenna socket.
This is capable of true HD 1080i.
Works with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Comes with a small antenna that is only useful if you are close to the TV transmitters.
It only took 5 minutes to install the drivers and software from the included CD.
The Arcsoft TotalMedia software has fixed automatic tuning of Australian commercial TV
channels, so can not be used to tune ATV repeaters.
Other tuner software can be used but has not yet been tested; look out for this in a future
article.
